BBL Treatment
Sciton's BBL laser is the strongest intense pulsed light (IPL) laser in the world. The BBL emits light at a frequency specifically tuned to target pigmented skin, such as dark sun damaged spots, freckles, red capillaries. It can even be used to help manage Rosacea. After treatment with a BBL you will notice this pigmented skin become very dark, raise to the top layer, and then simply, flake away. Leaving behind more uniform, even skin.
Further, by gently heating the surface of the skin, your body's own immune system up-regulates protective factors to not only remove unwanted discoloration but to increase collagen production which helps to support the skin, diminishing signs of wrinkles and lines. These results have been documented in medical literature with a Stanford study showing that BBL laser modifies the way our cells age. In fact, skin treated with BBL therapy regularly starts producing more collagen and elastin, making your cells behave like your younger skin once did. After your treatment, you can expect no down time with noticeable changes in seven to ten days, but results will keep improving over the coming weeks to months.
Laser therapy is most effective treatment available for improving skin tone, texture, and integrity. Light energy treats sun damage, uneven skin tone, wrinkles and fine lines.
We offer two laser platforms; broadband light (BBL) and HALO lasers from Sciton. Both provide excellent results, for different skin issues, at different intensities. BBL is an intense-pulsed light laser (IPL) while Halo is a hybrid fractional laser.
BBL is the gold standard treatment to reverse sun damaged skin and for anti-aging treatments. Further, by gently heating the surface of the skin, your body's own immune system up-regulates protective factors. This removes uneven skin tone but more importantly increases collagen production. This helps support the skin, diminishing signs of wrinkles and lines.

What is Sciton BBL laser?
Sciton's BBL laser is the strongest intense pulsed light (IPL) laser in the world. The BBL emits light that targets pigmented skin, like dark sun damaged spots, freckles, and red capillaries. You can also use it to help manage skin conditions like rosacea and scarring.

The type of laser you receive does impacts your safety and results. BBL surpasses traditional IPL lasers because it allows for customization.
We have the ability to adjust the cooling temperature, filter size and light wavelength. This makes your BBL laser completely custom to you. This also allows us to tailor the intensity of your treatment.

How does BBL treat aging?
BBL is a powerful anti aging treatment. We use a protocol developed by Dr. Bitters and published in this ground breaking study.
In summary, the study was investigating how skin cells behaved before and after BBL treatments. They took biopsies of young patients and older patients before and after 3 BBL treatments, spaced 1 month apart. After the BBL treatment, the patient's skin was more youthful than before and behaved like the skin of the younger patients.
Before every BBL treatment, we start with this forever young protocol. This ensures that our patients are getting a preventative and corrective treatment.
What should I do leading up to my appointment?
Before your treatment you will need a consultation to see if you are good candidate for for IPL laser treatments. As IPL lasers target skin pigment, they cannot treat every skin type. We may recommend testing your skin if you are a borderline candidate.
Avoid sun exposure 4 weeks before and after your laser treatment. This is because your skin color does effect the settings we can use. Make sure you are wearing broad spectrum sunscreen everyday leading up to and after your treatment.
We also want you to adjust your skin care prior to your treatment. You should hold your tretinoin or retinoid for 1 week before and after your treatment.
What does a typical treatment plan look like?
Laser treatments have the best results when performed in a series. The frequency of treatments will depend on the treatment goals. Typically we recommend an initial series of 3 treatments, spaced 1 month apart.
If treating specific skin conditions like rosacea and acne scars, we may recommend a more aggressive treatment schedule.
For the anti-aging effects of BBL, we recommend 2-3 treatments per year.
What can I expect during my treatment?
Patients tolerate BBL treatments well with minimal discomfort. We typically apply topical numbing cream 20-30 minutes before your procedure.
During the treatment, most patients describe sensations ranging from no discomfort to that of a rubber band snapping on their skin. We also have a Zimmer device which blows cool air onto your face to help with discomfort.
After your procedure, your skin will feel warm for a few hours, similar to that of a sun burn. Your skin may also feel tight and dry for a while.
What can I expect after my treatment?
People consider BBL to have no down time with minimal side effects. After treatment with a BBL you will notice pigmented skin darken and break up over the next few days. It is very important that you do not pick those areas while this is happening.
After a few days, the brown spots lift from deeper layers of skin and flake away. This leaves behind uniform, even skin. Our client's favorite aspect of laser treatment is the being able to watch their skin transform with each day.
